Meet the Weaver
I weave lace because I’m fascinated by light – as it reflects off the water, as it travels within the woods, as it lingers in a twilight sky. Lace allows me to weave light and thread together, to design fabric that holds the holes, that keeps the negative space.
I take great joy in creating the color gradations of my warps. They are all improvised (and thus can’t be exactly repeated). I decide an overall color progression based on my experience here – a misty morning, a beach walk, sometimes a storm, often sunrise or sunset. I place warp threads individually, attending to how the color of each relates to the adjacent threads as well as how it contributes to the whole. And I audition wefts that relate back to the original inspiration -- or sometimes take it elsewhere.
I work in Tencel yarn because it’s eco-friendly and gorgeous without being precious.
